RESEARCH GREENHOUSE

DATE: october 2019

LOCATION: Kitakyushu, Japan

PROGRAM: agricultural

AREA:  27,6 sq.m.

In this instance the project is a minimal in size utilitarian proposal for a small space to conduct agricultural and biology-related research on a university campus grounds. To make the basic wooden modular frame appealing and iconic, an external wavy GRP pattern was added over the polycarbonate glazing as decoration and shading element.

The greenhouse layout complies with the traditional solar greenhouse features, including the cross-ventilation and shelves on the north side to accommodate water mass storage as a measure of thermal balance. The gardening happens in the space under the greenhouse flooring, in planters located beneath the floorboards to keep the space cleaner and more convenient to use, and the watering occurs automatically also, keeping the space safe and convenient to use.
